Eat your heart out, Winter! Amazing Coronado day

What a gorgeous weekend we had!
On Sunday morning, after Matt’s TOXIC CHURROS soccer game, we headed off to Coronado to meet Allison and Tyler for some photography & camera lessons.

Allison is a fellow San Diego Soccer Mom, and she wanted to learn how to better use her awesome camera. She has a nice Canon DSLR and my FAVORITE lens, but she felt tied to the “auto” settings. She knew she could do more with that powerful tool, and she was right!! As the boys played on the beach and swapped PS3 FIFA11 IDs, I took Allison through all of the buttons and settings on her camera. After we talked about what all of the settings do (focus point, focus mode, drive, ISO, Av, Tv, M, P, metering mode, white balance…) we dove into “REAL WORLD SHOOTING” and shot our kids.

We stuck the boys in some awesome shade, and I showed Allison how “open shade” is awesome, but it can be even more amazing if you know how to look for the right shooting angle. Check out the first two pictures in the gallery down there, and look at how the light on Tyler’s face & the light in his eyes changes based on where we were standing. It’s a subtle but visible difference, and that’s the kind of little detail that can take pictures from “blah” to “WOW!” Of course, we took advantage of the blue sky & water before we left, too, and I showed Allison how I create those awesome reflection shots on Coronado…
