To wrap up 2008, my final session of the year was in La Jolla
with the beach all to ourselves -- just the way I love it!
I knew when I took this shot that it would be one of my favorites:
same with this one:
Other photographers often ask me, "Have you ever tried prime lenses?"
Prime lenses have a fixed focal length, meaning there is no zoom.
They have what's called the "two legged zoom."
If you want an image tighter or wider, that's up to your "two legs"
I've tried many different primes, but I always feel hobbled!
There are benefits to prime lenses, but I just can't get over my love affair with zoom lenses.
This family's shoot showed me again why I love zoom lenses, the
70-200 f/2.8 in particular!
I can get this shot, with great deep blue sky:
Then with the next shot, I can come in really close to catch that special interaction
between father & son and all the emotion that comes along with it:
Both images are special for their own reasons. But the moment would have been gone
had I needed to change lenses or cameras between shots.
...one last parting shot for 2008, from the end of the session during some daddy/son cuddles:
Enjoy!
